Oh Tannenbaum... How Gaily thee are Lighted!

              IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHT PROTECTED

Hello All,

It's time for December Nights in Spanish Village Art Center and beautiful Balboa Park.  Sleigh bells ring, carols are sung, Christmas tree lights are beaming and gaily wrapped gifts are hung from the boughs, while visions of sugarplums nestle in the hearts and minds of yuletide visitors. Now, if that doesn't get you out and into the Christmas spirit, nothing will!  I'm betting you will...

Come early and stay late as the artists and studios of Spanish Village extend their yuletide welcome to you.  The festivities kick off in Spanish Village on Friday, December 6, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the guests stop coming, usually around 10:00 p.m.  The celebration continues Saturday, December 7, 2014 (and Sunday) in the Village!

There will be Christmas music on our brightly lit patio, performances by visiting artists, booths of goodies by our fantastic artists and crafters, and Joy, Joy, Joy thrown out by the armfuls, from all of the studios.  Visit your favorites, and discover some new ones to boot!

Bring the kids to visit Santa in our gazebo, and make sure they bring their Christmas lists.  He'll be there with a jolly, "HO, HO, HO" to take a photo with all the boys and girls.  So, wear your Christmas best, and afterwards enjoy our hot chocolate, kettle corn, tamales and handmade ice cream booths while you are there!

We are located at 1770 Village Place, just off of Park Boulevard, between the San Diego Zoo and the Natural History Museum.

We promise, it will be "...a beautiful sight. You'll be happy tonight (and, every night. Daytime, too!). Walking in a Winter Wonderland!"

Fade to, "Oh tannenbaum, oh tannenbaum.  How gaily thee are lighted!"  HAPPY DECEMBER NIGHTS FROM ALL OF US AT SPANISH VILLAGE ART CENTER!

"Contrast of Light" by Yumi Climenson at Gallery 21

                       IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHT PROTECTED

Hello All,

We all need a little contrast in our lives, as Yumi Climenson reminds us this year, in her annual exhibition at Gallery 21 located in Spanish Village Art Center.  Each year, Yumi gives us another look at the importance of "Light" in our lives.  I can't wait to see which aspect of the light she will present in her collection for this show.  I am sure it will be thought provoking and enlightening as always.

So, I will be stopping in to the Gallery mid-week to visit with Yumi as she explains the essence and motivation for each painting.  I never miss an opportunity to see Yumi Climenson or her paintings.  And, neither should all of you.

See you all at Gallery 21.  It is an exhibition and a "light" experience you won't want to miss.  I promise you that Yumi will "light up your lives" with the "Contrast of Light" imbued in her paintings, and her gentle invitation to open your minds to the "Light".

Janine Free and Ron Tatro at Gallery 21

Hello All,

There's still time enough to see this fantastic presentation of photography by Janine Free and Ron Tatro at Gallery 21 in Spanish Village Art Center, located at 1770 Village Place, San Diego, California in Balboa Park.  The show runs May 8, 2012 through May 20, 2013 from 11:00 - 4:00 p.m. daily.

Janine Free is one of the most amazing photographers that I have ever met, and this year Ron Tatro joins her in another gala exhibition of abstract imagery that  will tease the mind and please the eye.

Of her work, Janine says, "This will be the fourth annual show for me at Gallery 21.  My new photographs will have a more abstract view of the "mannequin reflections" body of work I have worked on for the past six years."

Ron's works mainly encompass digital drawings, most of which are self portraits.  Speaking of his work, Ron says, "The human head shape is universally recognizable.  Artists abstract it, reduce it to its most basic shape and depict it with exacting detail.  The twelve drawings in this show represent my interest in the head as a point of departure to explore compositional variety and various ways to make a drawing.  I am interested in exploring as many possibilities as I can to make my drawings."

So, get yourselves down to Gallery 21 this weekend and meet Janine Free and Ron Tatro.  I promise you won't be disappointed.  I'll be stopping by myself this afternoon.  A visit with Janine is always an enlightening and delightful experience.  And, their combined works of art photography are a wonder to behold.  Something all of you don't want to miss.  See you there.

Celebrate the "Grand Sculpture Show" at SDSG

Hello All,

Welcome once again to a mega presentation by San Diego Sculptors Guild (Gallery 36) in Spanish Village Art Center, located in scenic Balboa Park between the Natural History Museum and San Diego Zoo.

This annual opening promises to be as spectacular as ever, so jot it down on your calendars and "Come on down"!  You are cordially invited to celebrate as SDSG unveils four new large-scale sculptures along with crowd pleasing activities such as witnessing (hold your horses, folks) a Rocket Sculpture Launch, while grooving to the cool sounds of "Logical Progression" all spun out by "DJ Alexander!  Sounds like a great time to me.

And, that's not all.  As usual, San Diego Sculptors Guild will be laying on the feast.  Enjoy appetizers and wine while mingling with other artists, patrons, collectors and guests.  There will be a raffle (one of visitors' favorites) of a sculpture on the same night.  So, you will want to get there on time to toss your stub in the hat (so to speak).  Now, you just can't beat that kind of big welcome and courtesy, all offered by San Diego Sculptors Guild!

I expect to see all of you there vying for that fantastic raffle and sculpture giveaway.  And, "loosen up your collars or buttons" whichever suits you (it's your thang), take in the evening and "Celebrate with San Diego Sculptors Guild" on its annual presentation of the "Grand Sculpture Show"!
